National trendsetter in Higher Education



In order to focus on faculty development in curriculum and research towards positive impact on education and society, Institute of Business Management (IoBM) and the Association of Management Development Institutions in Pakistan (AMDIP) recently organized IoBM – AMDIP Faculty Colloquium (IAFC-2016) at the IoBM Campus, according to IoBM Public Affairs Section, as Colloquium participants viewed it as a national trendsetter in higher education.

The objective of the Colloquium was to enable faculty to share experience in innovative teaching and faculty engagements by inviting faculty and research students from universities to present concerned research papers, thoughts, and visions. Invited, as such, were Dr. Mehtab S. Karim, Keynote Speaker, the then Senior Fellow and Research Professor, George Mason University, Virginia USA and currently Vice Chancellor, Malir University of Science and Technology as well as Faculty of business schools including lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors, professors, research fellows, MPhil and Ph.D scholars. IoBM faculty, students and management also attended the event.

Patrons of the IAFC 2016 included Mr. Talib Karim, Chairperson AMDIP Karachi and Rector, IoBM and Chief Guest Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, Chairperson AMDIP and Rector, Lahore School of Economics. The Chief Organizer of the IAFC 2016 was Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Dean CBM, IoBM. Ms. Shagufta Ghouri, Assistant Professor, IoBM, is the Colloquium Manager for IoBM while Ms. Memoona Zareen, Secretary AMDIP, is the Colloquium Manager for AMDIP.

The participants of the Colloquium were faculty members from University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore, Lahore School of Economics (LSE), DOW Institute of Health Management, Institute of Management and Information Sciences, Peshawar, Greenwich University, Karachi, Bahria University, Karachi, PAF KIET, Karachi, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karach, IBA Sukkur, LUMS, University of Lahore, University of Haripur, University of Baluchistan, IQRA University,  Barrett Hodgson University Karachi and IoBM.

The trainers at the Colloquium were Dr. Syed Zahoor Hassan, Professor, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS); Dr. Ijaz Qureshi, Dean, Lahore Business School, The University of Lahore; Dr. Irfan Butt, Professor, Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman and Adjunct Faculty Member at LUMS and Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Dean, CBM, IoBM.

Panelists at the Colloquium comprised Dr. Naveda Kitchlew, Chairperson AMDIP, Lahore Chapter; Ms. Shima Haider, Director QEC, Indus University; Dr. Niaz Ahmed Bhutto, IBA, Sukkur; Mr. Nazir Tunio, Akhuwat Foundation; Ms. Zareen Qureshi, Executive Director, Charter of Compassion; Ms. Huma Mahmud, Aman Foundation; Mr. Amir Khan, Head of Research, Chinese Overseas Ports Holding Company and Mr. Gohar Alam, Bayer Company.

Presentation and Panel Discussions at IAFC 2016 were held pertaining to engagements between Faculty-Faculty, Faculty-Student, Faculty-Industry and Faculty-Society. Also conducted were a number of workshops on topics including How to Publish in Impact Factor Journals, How to Develop and Teach Case Studies, How to Design and Deliver Curriculum and How to Manage a Research Group. The presentations, panels discussions and workshops helped attending faculty and students to grasp on the latest trends of higher education and in research whereby allowing them a path to pursue research in their respective fields.
